Wolf by Vvlad-vVolfen Wolf by Vvlad-vVolfen
This is easily one of my favorite pictures, its also the chief inspiration which slowly lured me back to this profile to work in my old anthro style again.
This was formerly awarded a DD in 2012 when I first uploaded it in my former intern profile , I've played with it a bit in hopes of improving it, but for the most part it's still the same.

The Large Wolf is inspired by the works of Dale Keown, and the anthro jackals are partially inspired buy one of my old digital MS-Paint pictures.

Me too, human characters in art bore me too much, I find anthros much more fun and interesting to draw.

Yeah, I've encountered a lot of thieves and fans today getting all mixed together, but everyone was quite well behaved (in spite of all the confusion) Oh what a day it's been...
I sure stirred up a hornets nest ._____________.

Yeah it took some years to learn, while closely following his example. But now I've carved my own style from it, though I dont forget where that part of it came from. :)

If that.  I think I might get in the breath to scream, but then it would probably just leak out the bloody holes in my chest.  Or, knowing how damn klutzy I am, I'd try to drag in a breath to scream, choke on my own spit, and be too worried about asphyxiating to notice I was being eaten.

JUST LOOK AT IT! Those adorable itty bitty fangs, those piercing innocent eyes, cute curled tail, soft and shiny fur!!! :) (Smile) Werewolf cubs are so cute my heart is going to explode from love!!!!
Those three jackal looking guys just picked him up because he was SO CUTE and their hearts melted, Shortie is telling little Cutie Pie Don't worry we won't leave you stranded in this scary forest all by yourself! Look we even have knives, see? So we can protect you from monsters and we'll take you home with us where you'll be safe and loved forever! You can tell Shortie is nice because he has such a sweet and caring expression on his face. And Redcape Spearthrower is thinking to himself Oh the wifey will just love having this little orphan to take care of, since our last 5 orphans are all nice a grown and living productive lives! We shall make sure this poor and adorable Cutie Pie will have a forever loving home!
But they don't know what Anxious Ed has just realized - that Cutie Pie was a trap set by Mama! Mama knows her bundle of razor sharp joy is irresistible to all and will even get arrow proof adventurers to drop their guard, forget their caution and go AWWWWW I JUST WANT TO HUG HIM AND PET HIM AND KISS HIM! That's when she goes BAM! RAR RARA RARARARAR SHRED SHRED MAUL CHOMP BASH SHATTER RIP TEAR KILL BLOOD BLOOD YUM!
And then Cutie Pie and Mama have a wonderful feast! The End!

Though I'm curious, you liking sticking to the legends so closely, where did Cutie Pie come from? Was Mama preggers when she got bitten? Or did she bite her own child/random other baby?
Or did she find werewolf love!? :D (Big Grin)

Really good work with the blurring to get the motion across! This is a fantastic action piece and I really get the impression it's just a snapshot of motion instead of a still piece - does that make sense? :-P
The facial expressions are great, too! Cutie Pie is my favorite, those fangs really are just too adorable, they are way to big for him but at the same time completely appropriate :D (Big Grin)
He looks like he's very curious about what's going on and not in the least frightened.
Redcape Spearthrower is my favorite one, the lighting and shading on him is spot on and that kind of evil grin always gets me :D (Big Grin) And ANxious Ed made me laugh :D (Big Grin)

Though a few questions about Shortie...What is that light brown band on his snout? I can't make it out. Also the metal parts on his cape are just one flat color.. I think if you add at least one more tone it would make it blend more naturally into the piece, at the moment it kind of looks like you forgot about them because everything around them has so much more detail and shading :) (Smile)

Love how you have the background, a foreground, and a middle ground. Great work with all the blurring for distance and motion. And of course we can't forget the BLOOOOOOD! :D (Big Grin) :D (Big Grin) :D (Big Grin)

LOL, Well you certainly took to interpreting the story for your self, i got a good kick out of it. I guess you'll be more suspicious of cute puppies from now on. :D

They are not Werewolves as many might think. Though I like werewolves in terms of there original legend, not so much the new scientific versions of the myth. But I'm not as big into them as Monstrous wolves in general. So the wolves are simply a currently undefined breed of wolf, sort of like my blue devil wolf. I just go with the Werewolf thing because it has a fandom backing, but all my wolves are not changers, but rather monstrous or demonic wolves, hence the lack of typical human anatomy.

The blurring was an effect I'd hoped I could master for this picture. I began the picture in focus, and then as I went on kept trying new effects. I admit I didn’t think I could pull it off, it was quite a challenge, and it actually turned out decent considering the lack of fore and back ground objects. In this case limited to just 6 layers (three at first, fore, center and back ground. But to do it right it would help to have a dozen layers to show a more gradual change in focus. I didn’t like the fact the back and for ground both had a lot of blur with no focal point near the top of the picture, I was worried people wouldn’t get it, so I added three more layers to a to get the point across on the bottom half at least. then I was afraid i'd just blurred too much. but I’m glad you got it. It means a lot.

The expressions were fun to work with, I've wanted to do my cartoons but didn’t want to start a new profile or do them here because it just didn’t fit, so I decided on a mix of the subjects and this is sort of the product of that. My goal here was to get each character to have a different take on the discovery of the pup. Though the pup was the most fun. I curled him up as pups often do when picked up like that. But didn’t want him to look scared, instead, I made him curiously oblivious to the danger at hand. And gave him the needed characteristics of the parent that actually turned out pretty cute. The small jackal with the pup in his hand is actually what drove the concept to become what you see here. The picture started as a simple wolf jumping a standard human victim, but then searching for something better I stumbled across the jackal holding a pup up to look at it, it was in my old art from some years back, so I altered it a bit then applied it to the picture. The tall jackal was added in late. because I needed to convey it was a sort of hunting party and not a couple making an adoption. However it seems that was lost on you. :D

The brown band on shortie’s snout is his tongue licking his chops, I'll just remove it. And Yes I totally did miss the cape, I fixed those things right ways, good catch. :)
